John McCarthy & wife Mary O'Connor W.Springfield Ma. 1900

I could not find a marriage record in Hampden Co. Ma. for this couple, John McCarthy and Mary O'Connor. Mary was born in Nova Scotia ca. 1854 this couple had a son John T. McCarthy, born 1899 who married a Louise Hayden. Another child was Catherine McCarthy who never married. It is the O'Connor side of this family that I am trying to prove.

Might not be a connection, but I am searching a John J. McCarthy who md. a Mary O'Connor and lived on River St. in Springfield at one time early 1900. They had a son John T. McCarthy born 1899 who was a policemand in West Springfield, Ma. and married a Louise Hayden. I am working on the O'Connor line.

William D McCarthy born abt 1868 in Lexington Kentucky - Alaska family

I’m researching my great grandfather William Daniel McCarthy, he was in Alaska 1901-1903, this is how I came about. Birthplace of his father is United States and birthplace of his mother is Ohio. In 1903 he was arrested in Alaska and sent to McNeil island penitentiary in Washington state, in 1906 he was transferred to Leavenworth penitentiary in Kansas. He was released from prison in 1912 and was working his way back to Alaska, fall of 1912 he was in Seattle waiting for the next ship in the spring of 1913. I don’t know what happened to him from there. Soon after he was arrested in 1903 my grandfather William McCarty was born and has a large family here in Alaska, he died in 1989. My grandfather didn’t know much about his father William Mccarthy and I’m hoping to learn more about him. I’m hoping someone out there knows about him. Thank you

The name William McCarthy is fairly common and I'm having difficulty narrowing down possible matches in old newspapers and records. For example, a February 1912 Juneau, Alaska, newspaper has an account of a William McCarthy arrested for vagrancy... but is this the correct man?

Can you add more information for William? You have dates of his incarcerations: do you have his prison records? Arrest records? Have you found newspaper articles about him? What was his occupation? -- I find many accounts of arrests associated with the name.

Anything you can add might help the search.

I found an article dated 22 Feb 1912 in The Leavenworth Post that William D. MCCarthy had been returned to the penitentiary after a short stay in a sanitarium in Washington D.C.

The McNeil Island prisoner records show a release date of Aug 15, 1913... do you know he was in fact released in 1912?

I have his Leavenworth records, he was released July 1912 and in August he telegraph Leavenworth from Seattle, wanting to extend his return trip to Alaska until the following spring, I don’t know anything else about him, I’m just hoping someone will know who he is by the prison photos

I checked Seattle area newspapers on four sites, and the Washington State Digital Archives and don't find anything I can attribute to him.

Where is Agatha in 1900? And Agatha with children in later records?

No records on Agatha, other than she died about 1906, she was pregnant with Williams son when he was arrested in 1903

Williams parents names are unknown, but in his Leavenworth record it says his father born in Ireland and his mother born in Scotland. Someone out there knows William and his family and I’m hoping that they will eventually see this and contact me. Thank you to those that are trying to help, I really appreciate it.

Hoping to find the parents of James McCarthy. He immigrated to the US in 1850 landing in Geneva/Phelps, New York. Married Ellen (nee ??) in 1865 and had 8 children in Phelps and then later in Kansas. Also hoping to find more info about Ellen and her family. James was born sometime between 1819 and 1827 - records show various birth years. Ellen was born in 1847. James came from County Wicklow; have no idea where Ellen came from other than she was born in Ireland.

Hello M! I am not sure if I mentioned it (and if not, please forgive the late notice!) A few of my matches (and cousins to you?) are meeting up on Sat July 15th at Look Park in Northampton, MA. I will be flying up with my son (10 yr old) and we are in touch with Dave Fitzgerald (since he lives just north of Boston, but will be vacationing in Berkshires - we decided on that location. There just happens to be a Scottish fest at the park that day too! Do you live in the greater Springfield area as it would be great if you could join us to sort out the details as CLanders (JL dna on Ancestry) will be there and Dave Fitzgerald, his Dad and another cousin John Lovett (family came from Dingle too)! My sister, her daughter will be there too. I don't have the exact time or meeting spot, but when we finalize that, I will let you know. Would you be able to join us?

I am trying to locate the family of MICHAEL McCARTHY of Cork, Ire. probably born in the late 1700's or around 1800. He had at least one son, JUSTIN McCARTHY, who was an author and member of Parliament. This Justin had a son JUSTIN HUNTLY McCARTHY who was a noted author and member of Parliament, as well. I think that I might be descended from another of MICHAEL McCARTHY'S sons, or a brother of the older Justin. Does anyone have information about this family? Thanks very much! Ray, Colorado

They had at least: - Mary Agnes m Timothy Kirby - James m Margaret Sweeney - Johanna m Michael McCarthy (yes just to add to the challenge) These 3 children all came to St Louis and raised families there. Marriage record for John McCarthy and Margaret Shea

I hoping to find further information for these two people. John was born around 1801 in Donoughmore Parish, County Cork. Based on death record of their son, who died in Bangor, Maine in 1926, discovered his wife's name was Margaret Shea. I do not know if they were married in Ireland or later when they settled in Bangor.
