I am searching for information on Michael Coleman McCarthy. He was of native american birth, but adopted out of an orphange by a McCarthy family from Kansas City, KS/MO area. According to family stories, he was raised by the adoptive family on a farm. He was born in 1917, possibly in Illinois. He also had a twin sister, but I'm unsure if they were adopted together. I found records of a Michael McCarthy married to a Mary McCarthy with 2 stepchildren (Bernadette and Jerry Marshall) in the 1940 census in Kansas City, MO. His age and occupation as a cabinetmaker, leads me to believe he is the same person. I 1945 he joined the military, and shortly after married another woman named Alice Patricia Hemenway (my husband's grandmother). Any information that could help me trace him back before 1945 or to the adoptive family would be appreciated.

Florence has been in our family in just about every generation that i have found and it is always a male name. I am also looking for another branch of my McCarthys- Timothy McCarthy(1851) one of at least six other siblings.Jeremiah, Julia, Hanora, Florence, one that married an O'Sullivan. Timothy married Margaret. They had Six children that I know of,Michael (1881), Molly (1883), Maggie (1885), Willie (1886), Ellie((1887), Julia(1888). They were from Lackenafasoge (Lacka) for short. If anyone thinks this sounds familiar please let me know. Thanks

My great-grandfather Felix McCarthy was born in Virginia in 1858. His birth record show his father was a Jeremiah McCarthy and Margaret Healey. US census records indicate a Jeremiah McCarty in Berkley, Charles City County, Virginia and perhaps later Houghton County Michigan.
Jeremiah had 3 brothers. Florence was born in Boston and Moise and Robert were born in County Kerry Ireland. Jeremiah was also born in County Kerry.
I am interested in finding out how he came to Virginia and under what circumstances he emigrated to Canada in 1860.

Florence McCarthy appears lots in my branch of the McCarthy clan as Florence Dennis, Florence John, John Florence etc etc. We are the McCarthy Reagh branch of the family. There are McCarthy Mor, McCarthy Reagh, McCarthy Dunmanway, McCarthy Sowney etc - some of these are earlier & some later offshots of the original ancestor. There is a shared common ancestor found by DNA research at about 400AD. See the McCarthy DNA project if you have a intact male line.

Google a famous Florence McCarthy who was a political prisoner of Queen Elizabeth I in the 1600s & died & is buried in London.

Please visit my PUBLIC tree 'Josephine Salt Family Tree Halloween 2012' to see if your McCarthy are the same as mine.

Best wishes,
Josephine Dunn

Hi,
I'll be sure to check out your tree. I had done some general research on Florence McCarthy and found references that indicated this name, used for males belonged to the McCarthy Reagh. You post would seem to confirm what we were told in Ireland that only one branch used the Florence name. I do have an intact male line and have wondered if it would be worthwhile to try this avenue. Our direct male line is fading out so perhaps this is indeed a good time to do this.

His father was Dennis and mother Mary. I have seen hints that show he died in 1967 in San diego but that isn't him because I am his son and was in Spokane when he died.

Felix McCarthy m Mary Kingston; Daniel 1859; Mary 1861; Shronacarton, near Clodagh, Drimoleague, Cork

I am looking for any information on the family of Felix McCarthy and Mary Kingston. It appears that they married in 1861 in the RC parish of Drimoleague in 1861 but they had a son Daniel born in 1859, baptized in Drimoleague RC parish.
Their daughter Mary was born in 1862. The residence at the time of the Baptisms was Shronacarton (a townland that absorbed Sunville that was still around at the time of the Tithes). Marriage witnesses were Susan Fuller and Julia McCarthy. Baptismal sponsors were Daniel Kingston, William Kingston, Julia McCarthy, and Kate Forbes. I wonder if either Daniel or Mary married. I would be particularly interested in finding descendants. It is very possible that this is the same Mary Kingston who was living in that townland, when as a widow, she married my ggrandfather, Maurice Mahony, in 1870. I keep hitting the proverbial brick wall so I hope there is someone who can help. Thank you.
